Cake Inspiration - Fall Watercolors

Weekly Cake Inspiration #011 — Watercolor Autumn
🎨🎂
This week’s inspiration is all about painting the colors of fall in buttercream! Warm burnt orange, terracotta, burgundy, golden yellow, sage and brown come together on a soft ivory canvas to create a beautiful modern autumn cake.
What I especially love about this design is that it isn’t just pretty—it’s a great way to practice and build decorating skills. Palette-knife strokes create that watercolor effect, while textured piping adds pumpkins, flowers, leaves and dimension. And those little touches of gold?
✨ Just enough to make the whole design pop!
🍁 Perfect For: Fall Birthdays • Thanksgiving • Showers • Autumn Celebrations
🎓 Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
🎨 Featured Techniques: Buttercream Watercolor • Palette Knife Painting • Textured Piping • Color Blending
💡 Baker’s Tip: Start with small amounts of color and build your buttercream strokes in layers. Leave a little ivory showing between colors—it creates dimension and keeps those gorgeous fall shades from becoming muddy.
That’s one of the things we want our Cake Inspiration Collection to be about: not simply showing you a beautiful cake, but helping you look at a design and think, “How can I create that?”
And of course, we’ve got the tools and supplies to help you Get the Look! 🩵🤎
