Frida Kahlo Cake

Good morning,
It has been a little while since my last post. So with cinco de mayo approaching I wanted to create a festive cake. And what artist would be better than Frida?!
I played with a few different mediums and had lots of fun. The cakes are obviously covered in fondant. I found this image of Frida and printed it onto an edible image. Very carefully, I cut out the picture and adhered it to the cake with a little piping gel. Then on to the embellishments!!!! For the colorful Mexican banners around the base, I used Flexique. I love this stuff. It was so easy to use. I mixed it together according to the instructions, added my color then poured onto silicone texture mats. In about 10 minutes, I was able to remove the dry but still flexible, flexique from my mats. Viola! I was then able to attach them to my board.
For her hair, I used a tip #18 and piped black royal icing and immediately piped small rosettes and leave onto her hair.
And last, the decorative collar on the image was replaced with fondant applique's, made with cutters and molds.
Check out our youtube page for the whole tutorial.
Cheers
