| Cynthia
Bayne of Cake Craft Shoppe took 1st place in the Marie Antoinette
Wedding Cake Competition at the New York Cake Show in January!
Cynthia's cake was 57" tall, and was made using fondant, gum paste,
Royal icing and pulled sugar techniques. Her highest compliment came
from non other than Ron Ben-Israel who said that he loved the cake
and the design! Cynthia's cake design included stenciling; gum paste
mini roses and cornflowers; distressed piping; fabric gathering on
front base, bustle and bow on back of base layers; pulled sugar
separator between top tier and second tier, with lace hanging below
top tier and sugar beads hanging from lace. The cake is on display
in New York at N.Y. Cake & Baking Dist., 56 West 22nd Street, New
York, New York. Well done! Congratulations, Cynthia!!! |

FLOUR POWER: BRIDES Editor in Chief Millie Martini
Bratten says, "One of the things that sets a wedding apart
from a regular party is a magnificent cake." The Mar/Apr
2009 issue of BRIDES showcases eight pages of
floral themed cakes that were entered in the Oklahoma State
Sugar Art Show. Everything from Coco Chanel to Russian folk
art inspired these showstoppers! The creators really reached
for the stars when putting the finishing touches on their
designs. Some used roses from their own gardens, hand-made
feathers and others were hand painted - all proof that if
you have talent, imagination, butter and sugar, you can rise
to new heights! |
